Marisa Silva Introduction

Hi! My name is Marisa Silva from Albuquerque, NM. I recently graduated from Rice University and majored in political science and policy studies with concentrations in comparative politics and international affairs. During my undergrad, I studied abroad in Brussels for a summer and in London for a semester. My primary area of study was Europe and the EU.

I have previously interned with a London consulting firm and with the Center for American Progress on their national security and international policy team. I am currently applying for jobs in DC at think tanks and non-profits. Eventually I hope to pursue a masters in international relations or foreign service.

I really enjoy being an active member of my community. I helped to found Rice's chapter of MoneyThink, a national organization which pairs high schoolers and college students to create near-peer mentorships focused on financial literacy. I also was an academic mentor for political science and essay writing for Rice underclassmen and served on student government for three years in various positions. During my senior year I was secretary of Rice's chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honors society. In my free time I enjoy yoga, reading, and being outdoors.

I am thrilled that through this internship I am going to see the UN in action. As someone who hopes to have a career in international relations, I know this experience will be an important step for my longterm goals. I am also excited to learn from my peers in this internship as I know that we will have various backgrounds, ages, and interests.
